As we slowly begin transitioning back into the office (at least here in Australia) I though it could be helpful to share with you, two timeless work outfit ideas, in case you need a little inspiration.
As I mention here, where I talk about my work capsule wardrobe, one of my biggest tips for creating a streamlined work wardrobe would be to plan a collection of outfits in advance. That way, you already know what items of clothing go together and you’re not scrambling at 6am on a Monday morning having tried on five different outfits. Yes, I’ve definitely been there – don’t recommend.
These are two of my favourite go-to work outfits – both of which I reach for regularly in my nine to five. They look professional but are comfortable enough to wear all day in the office (two important considerations when buying work wear). One of the best things about these looks can be worn all year around; on their own in spring/summer and layered underneath a coat in autumn or winter.
Let’s face it, a black dress is just one of those timeless pieces which is perfect for a capsule work wardrobe. I was given this David Lawrence dress for my birthday back in 2015 and I think it perfectly epitomises a slower approach to style. Now, almost 6 years later, it’s a dress I reach for on almost a weekly basis. It’s a classic cut and design and the fabric has survived regular washes without becoming too tired or worn. I’ve paired it with neutral slingback heels from Country Road and a navy Sportscraft coat – as we’re currently in winter here in Australia.
Black pants are definitely a staple in my work wardrobe and I like how versatile they are. One of my favourite ways to style them is with this beautiful top I bought from Cue back in 2016. I love the bell sleeve detailing and the little triangle cut out in the front adds a bit of interest while still being conservative and work appropriate.
One of my favourite ways to add colour to a capsule wardrobe is through accessories and I love how the red ballet flats add interest to the otherwise monochrome look.
