I’m sure I’m not alone in falling for Khaite’s beautiful Maddy top. With it’s ribbed knit, sweetheart neckline and a silhouette vaguely reminiscent of the Tudor bodices of the 15th century (I know, I know, minus the heavy boneing, brocade and skirts but humour me here), it’s a timeless statement piece which will elevate any minimalist’s wardrobe. Despite being on my wish list since the time that I first laid eyes on it, there’s just one slight problem which has stopped me adding it to my shopping cart. That price tag. You too? Luckily, I recently came across the perfect Khaite Maddy top dupe. Let me introduce Pixie Market’s Chiara top.

Design

There are a lot of design similarities between Pixie Market’s Chiara top and Khaite’s Maddy top which makes it the perfect dupe. They are both made of thick ribbed fabric, with a wide neckline, a sweetheart bodice and flared sleeves. They even have similar detailing around the bodice’s cup. The Pixie Market’s Chiara top also extends to mid hip but, unlike Khaite’s Maddy top, it has a straight hem and doesn’t have the hip cutaway detail. However, for approximately one tenth of the price, these are details I can live without.

Quality

While I’m sure there are other dupes available, something I really appreciate about Pixie Market’s Chiara top is the quality. As you probably know by now, garment quality is very important to me  as it helps ensure that my purchases last, and are worn, as much as possible in order to minimise garment waste. Pixie Market’s Chiara top is made of a thick ribbed knit. The fabric is nice to wear, good quality and, with appropriate care, appears that it will keep its shape long term. For me, personally, the heavy ribbed knit allows me to go sans bra – something I’m always grateful for.

How to style Pixie Market's Chiara Top or the Khaite Maddy Top

One of my favourite things about this top’s design, Maddy or Chiara, is that it’s a statement piece which will elevate the simplest of wardrobe basics. Here’s two ideas for styling this dupe.

Outfit Idea 1 - Chiara Top with Jeans

The first way I’ve styled the Chiara top is with my favourite Levi Ribcage Jeans in the mid blue wash, black boots, a pearl necklace from Monica Vinader (kindly gifted). This is a great “jeans and a nice top” outfit and is something I’d wear out to a date night or drinks with friends. It’s also great for those transitional seasons – spring and autumn styled with a coat or trench. I particularly love how the pearl necklace accentuates the neckline of this top.

Outfit Idea 2 - Chiara Top with Satin Midi Skirt

The second way I’ve styled this top is with a black Toteme satin midi skirt I recently bought preloved from The Vestiarie Collective, black handbag, and a pair of two tone Jonak heels – a recent thrifted find. I love the refined elegance of this outfit making it perfect for a cocktail event, fancy dinner out event and certainly for Paris, where these photos were taken.

Available Colours

The Chiara top comes in a chocolate brown shade, white or black. Khaite’s Maddy top comes in a light brown/beige, a burnt orange, a merlot red, white and black. Not all stockists sell all colours so have a look around if you’re after a particular shade.

Price

While Khaite’s Maddy top will set you back at least 920 pounds (sometimes more depending on the retailer) it’s dupe, Pixie Market’s Chiara top, comes in at a much more reasonable 120 pounds. An investment I was glad to make for a high quality piece I’d had my eye on for forever.

Sizing

I’m usually an extra small and this size fitted me perfectly.

Where to buy

You can buy the Chiara top via Pixie Market’s  online store. I originally purchased mine from Selfridges but it appears that this item is now out of stock. If you do want to invest in the real deal you can purchase Khaite’s Maddy top at FarfetchMy Theresa, Net-A-Porter and Harrods. The prices may vary slightly between retailers and the colour you choose, so I suggest shopping around. I’d also encourage you to take a look for either via online retailers such as Vinted, The Real Real or the Vestiaire Collective. You may just be able to find the real thing, or the dupe, preloved which is better for your budget and the planet.
