One of my favourite things about clothes is how they can become memory keepers, rooting you back to the time and place in which you wore them. This white jumpsuit is particularly dear to my heart as it was the outfit I wore to our engagement party and my bridal shower (we are actually coming up 2 years married – how time flies!). However, it’s also an outfit that taught me an important lesson about minimalism and slow fashion.
I bought this jumpsuit long before we got engaged and, as I hadn’t had an opportunity to wear it yet, our engagement party seemed like the perfect occasion for it. However, as my bridal shower approached I began looking for a new dress. I couldn’t find anything I truly loved within my budget and, when I really stopped and took inventory, I realised I was looking for a new dress “just because” I had already worn this jumpsuit to a wedding related event
There are so many good reasons to buy a new dress for an engagement, bridal shower, or any other special event. However, I decided that in this case, the perfect outfit was, actually the jumpsuit rather than something outfit I was only on the fence about. I love the Francine Jay’s saying, “minimalism is about asking why before you buy” and this was a good opportunity for me to be more mindful not just about “what” I was buying but “why”.
So whether you choose to wear a new dress to each wedding related event or the same one – and both are equally perfect choices – the best outfit is the one which will make you feel the most beautiful, confident and which allows you to enjoy celebrating this special time in your life to the fullest.
Have you had an experience before where you realised you need to pause and ask “why”, before purchasing an item of clothing?
