As far as adding colour to my wardrobe goes, I often find myself drawn to navy blue and other such muted shades. I also feel that navy is a colour which lends itself to wedding guest outfits. Black and white, usual go-to colours for me, aren’t traditionally appropriate for such events, but navy feels like a timeless alternative.
As much as I am not an advocate for, and generally try to avoid, impulse buying, this was one such purchase. I was walking by a sample sale in Alexandria when I first moved to Sydney back in 2017 and knew it was coming home with me as soon as I tried it on. Given it’s still in my wardrobe years later, I’d say it was a good decision. I’ve always loved the drama of the high neckline and mermaid style skirt. The combination of the lace and silhouette are attention grabbing enough so I generally try to keep the accessories simple with my go-to pair of neutral pumps (black pumps or strappy heels would also work wonderfully) and statement earrings (here I’ve styled it with interlaced gold hoops, but I’ve worn it with various other statement earrings throughout the years).
It was the perfect dress for a wedding we attended not long afterwards and was ear marked for a few others, but sadly pandemic restrictions, prevented us from attending. No matter, perhaps I’ll just have to orchestrate the right occasion to get more wear out of it. Life’s too short not to wear pretty dresses, right?
