There’s a reason a black dress is one of those classic wardrobe staples – it just takes all the effort out of dressing. A statement piece all on its own, it can take you from day to night with a few well chosen accessories. This beautiful dress by Beaufille, is my go-to black dress of the moment – a brand I recently discovered. I love how its simple designs compliments the statement sleeves (you know I’m a fan of balloon sleeves). I’ve been paring it with a pair of burnt red suede Trenery kitten heels for a 9-5 office look or the Angela heel from Country Road and pearls to elevate the look into the evening.

I’ve learned that over the years that there is a distinction between outfits that I admire on others and outfits that feel like me. Sometimes I’ll be trying on an item of clothing that I’ve seen others wear and have loved, but there’s something wrong with it. It might fit, it might even look good, but there’s a nagging feeling that I can’t shake that it’s just not right for me. After my fair share of experiences trying to “goldilocks” these items into my wardrobe I’ve learned it’s better not to try to force an outfit into my wardrobe that doesn’t feel right, no matter how much I like it, otherwise it just hangs in my wardrobe, unused. And then there are those outfits that are just right. The ones that that you take one glance at and know, instantly, it’s for you. They slide effortlessly into your wardrobe and life without even needing to try them on. I’m happy to say this dress is the latter.

Do you have a classic black dress in your wardrobe? Do you have items that just effortlessly work for you?
