Today Rob and I celebrate our first wedding anniversary. Where has the time flown? It has been so lovely to look back over the photos and our wedding video, so I thought I would share a few with you.
Rob and I were married in the grounds of my family’s church and our reception was at the Joinery in Westend. Because I wanted to style the reception myself, I liked the idea of a blank space venue with an industrial vibe. As soon as we walked into the Joinery with its polished cement floors and vaulted ceiling, we knew it was the right place. Maria and her team were so professional, kind and helpful and made the day run seamlessly and the food was amazing (something which our guests commented on).
As for styling, we chose to keep it minimal and classic and let the Joinery’s beautiful atmosphere speak for itself. We worked around a colour palette of black, white and green with hints of gold and I definitely gathered a lot of inspiration from Hello May, and Together Journal. We also did a lot of DIY such as flowers and stationary and we were also so grateful to have so many talented family members and friends who helped out, such as Rob’s mother who made the cake and his aunt who bottled 90 jars of honey from her farm for our wedding favours.
I found my dress at Karen Willis Holmes almost immediately. All their dresses were stunning, so I thought I would have a difficult time making a decision, but as soon as I tried it on I knew it was perfect. I also had some photos taken in my grandmother’s dress from the 1960s before the ceremony and it was so special to incorporate that into the day. The girls at KM Makeup studios were amazing when it came to hair and make up. I’m someone who wears very minimal make up and so they did such a great job at creating a look which was special but still natural.
We were so lucky to have Van Middleton as our photographer and Mitch and Chelsea Birchall from Mitch Birchall Studios as our videographer – they were so talented and such great people to work with – we couldn’t recommend them enough. It’s so lovely to have these beautiful memories of the day to look back on for years to come.
For us, the most important thing was that our wedding reflected us as a couple and was a celebration, with our family and friends, of our relationship and, at the end of the day, it’s the atmosphere and genuine excitement that really stays with you. I’m happy to say that it lived up to all of our expectations and it was a day overflowing with love, excitement and joy.
